The Town of Springfield Regular Municipal Election will be held on Tuesday, April 7, 2026. The Election will be conducted via polling place. There will be four (4) Trustee positions and one (1) Mayor position on the ballot. Nomination petitions will be available for circulation beginning on Tuesday, January 6, 2026 at 8:00 am. Nomination petitions must be filed with the Town Clerk no later than Monday, January 26, 2026 at 5:00 pm. Candidates must be at least eighteen (18) years of age on Election Day; must be a registered elector and must have resided within the incorporated limits of the Town of Springfield for twelve (12) consecutive months immediately preceding the date of the election.

The Town of Springfield has one vacancy on the Board of Adjustment, which the Town is required to fill. This vacancy is a three-year term ending July 2028 (remaining 2 years 6-month term).  Individuals wanting to apply for the vacancy must be a resident of the Town of Springfield.

The Board of Adjustment is a quasi-judicial board that hears appeals, variances and conditional use requests from the Town’s zoning regulations as specified under the Colorado Revised Statues.  Members of the Board of Adjustment are appointed by the Town of Springfield Board of Trustees.  There is a total of five members on the Board of Adjustment and public meetings are the last Tuesday of the month when a request for a hearing has been made.

If interested in filling this vacant board position, please send a letter of interest stating your qualifications to the Town of Springfield at 748 Main Street by 5:00 pm Thursday, January 8, 2026.  Please contact Town Hall with questions regarding serving on the Board of Adjustment at 719.523.4528.

School Routes (Weekdays Only): On weekdays, snow removal crews will first clear streets leading to the school to ensure safe access for students and staff. 2. Emergency & Public Safety Routes: After school routes—or immediately during non-school days—crews will prioritize access to: o The Hospital o Ambulance Barn o Police Department o Sheriff’s Office o Fire Department When staffing levels and equipment availability allow, these routes may be cleared simultaneously. 3. Airport Access: Once the above routes are open, crews will clear the airport to ensure that Flight For Life can land a fixed-wing aircraft if needed. 4. Residential Side Streets: Side streets will be cleared after all priority routes. Snow will be pushed from the curb toward the center of the street, when possible, and intersections will be opened for navigation. 5. Main Street Businesses: Businesses along Main Street are responsible for removing snow from their own sidewalks and property. Please note: Per CDOT regulations, snow from sidewalks may not be pushed into the street. Also: Snow may not be piled within 20 feet of street corners blocking Stop signs, street signs, or driver’s view of Main Street. We appreciate your patience and cooperation during winter weather events. These procedures help ensure that essential services remain accessible to all residents. Stay safe, Springfield!

If you have been out and about today, you have probably noticed that our highway is back open!! A huge thank you to all involved, and also to the residents for hanging in there with us as we navigate the detour!

That being said, our contact with BNSF said they are now moving to the other crossing. Meaning, the planned closure for County Road 24.6 (Fairgrounds Road) is happening today. Please avoid the area and allow crews to complete the task at hand safely!

Thank you again for all your patience while our railroads get some much deserved maintenance!

🚧 Reminder, Springfield! 🚧

BNSF Railroad will begin railroad crossing repairs on HWY 287/385 tomorrow (Nov. 4th).

🔹 Detours will route traffic along Colorado St. and nearby avenues — watch for temporary stop signs and drive with extra care. We know a few of you drivers that have missed these new stop signs while getting used to the changes!
🔹 If you live or park along Colorado, 12th–16th Avenues, please move vehicles if possible to help traffic flow.
🔹 Expected completion: Thursday, Nov. 6th.

Heads up, Springfield!! Temporary Stops Signs Installed!

In preparation for the upcoming Highway 287/385 closure (starting tomorrow, 11/3/2025 for railroad crossing repairs), our Street Department has installed temporary stop signs and changed traffic flow at several intersections along Colorado Street.

• 16th & Colorado

Now, here’s the thing… our crews have already watched a few drivers blow right past these shiny new stop signs 😬— so consider this your friendly reminder: slow down, pay attention, and stop when you see red!

We know detours and changes aren’t anyone’s favorite, but these updates will help keep everyone safe (and ticket-free) while the highway work is underway.
